THE MACPODZ "Ann Arbor's jazz rock outfit, The Macpodz, throw some of the coolest parties around. With a little bit of everything in its musical grab bag, The Macpodz easily please music lovers, from fans of far out jazz to those rootsy jam band-style grooves. The inventor and namesake of its own brand of funky dance music, coined 'disco-bebop,' The Macpodz pay homage to kinky musical concoctions like the groovy, unstructured big band instrumental works of the late, great Frank Zappa with psychadelic tinges of sunglasses-and-afro era Miles Davis. With two solid albums under its belt and a slew of foot-shuffling fans across the region, The Macpodz impress as only an open-minded band can, taking the core of genuine American music and tossing in tasteful touches of world music grooves and lots and lots of swinging horn licks that rouse and comfort all at once." -RAB, Toledo City Paper
The Macpodz released their debut album, Genius Food for Super Heroes, on January 2, 2007 and Orcastrate, on March 1, 2008. Our first live CD "Live From The Ark" will be released this April. In the early 1900s, a spirit stirred in the Southern U.S, and the people turned their minds, hands, voices, and feet to the melodies and back-beats that sprung from their hearts. With industry on the rise in the 50s, that same force made guitars growl and hips sway. In the 70s, it manifested in synthesizers, flashing lights, and beat-boxes.
The same spirit stirred in the heart of upstart DJ Dusk in March 2007 when he approached the owner of a Mediterranean bistro and made a deal hosting a dance night; and Tantra was born. As the months went past, more and more talented DJs, musicians, and music-lovers traveled in from across the Midwest. There was a buzz in the air and the movement grew.
Momentum has brought us to where we are today. Moving to the Mad Frog, one of Cincinnati’s most historic venues, BASSment is proud to carry the mantle of underground electronic dance music in Cincinnati. The laid-back atmosphere, thumping sound, psychadelic lights, and open-minded crew have created a local safe haven for the electronic scene. From new electronic music-lovers and rookie DJs to electronic dead-heads and nationally recognized talent, BASSment is a welcome home, and a platform from which to spread one’s wings. The BASSment crew works hard to keep a stream of talent coming through that never dissapoints, and the friendly Frog staff of Aydin, Lena, Belent, Nick, and, Jillian hold down the scene’s steadiest venue.
At the heart of BASSment you can expect to find an energetic and ecclectic fan base that come together every 2nd and 4th Saturday to experience the excitement through dance, socializing and frivilous jocularity. The movement has been made, and the parties are only getting better. The hard work and planning of residents Vinny Bricks, Bit Flip, Firecat 451, DJ Oblivious, Weapons of Wax Destruction, and DJ Dusk will guide BASSment as it grows, evolves and transcends. The doors are always open to those who seek the music and atmosphere. We sincerely hope that you too, will come be part of the movement and watch us blossom!
Cheers! BASSment is proud to be a part of the electronic music family @ The Mad Frog Every second & fourth Saturday Nights

SUPER-MASSIVE REGGAE BAND Every Thursday @ The Mad Frog Ladies' Free Want to email somebody a link to this photo?
SUPER-MASSIVE is an All Star Sextet featuring members of Rays Music Exchange, the Zionites, DLO(Da LEMMINGS OnSombol), and Grand Oversoul. Formed in the Spring of 2005, the group, consisting of Tim Hensley(drums), Alonzo Leggette(percussion), Nick Blasky(bass and vocals), Andy Lenihan(keys), John Gentry Jr.(guitar), and Jeremy Lacinak(vocals and guitar), have fused a unique sounding perspective on an original roots music form. Like their predecessors who fused their own Island rhythms with R & B, Ska, and Dub. Selecter has added their own twist by bringing in newer elements such as Jazz and Rock, with extended improvisational sections, making for a truly new and fresh variation. New CD dropping this Summer. Drink Specials Domestic Draft $1 Pint $4 Pitcher Import of The Month $2 Pint Import Draft Whiskey $3.oo 7 & 7 Cincinnati's finest and most popular Reggae crew, Super-Massive, will unveil its first album with two release parties this week -- Wednesday at Stanley's Pub 9/17/08 and Thursday at The Mad Frog 9/18/08(where they'll be joined by special guests Jah Roots, from Missouri). Super-Massive -- formerly known as Selecter -- contains several skilled, veteran musicians from bands like Da Lemmings OnSombol, Ray's Music Exchange, Zionites and Grand Oversoul, so it's no shock that they've created a solid, eclectic collection of Reggae on their self-titled disc. Reggae grooves prevail on the album's 10 tracks and the pristine vocals are drenched in Reggae soul. But, as the group members' varying backgrounds suggest, there are a lot of other genres that inform the band's sound. Rock, Jazz and Funk weave in and out of the supple rhythms like a boxer, but it is done so seamlessly, it all just feels like one big funky Reggae party. The band seems tailor made for not only Reggae fans, but "Jam band" fans as well, with flowing arrangements that leave a lot of room for extended jams and improv. With the new CD's crisp production, exceptional performances and outstanding creativity, Super-Massive makes it be known with this album that they are not only the best Reggae band in town, they are also among the best of any genre.
