BRIAN ERNST Saturday, September 11
Born April 29, 1984, Brian grew up in Loveland, OH, a small town northeast of Cincinnati, OH. He graduated high school in 2002, attended the University of Cincinnati thereafter. A few semesters later he dropped out of college and headed west!Brian spent the next three years, between Dec 2003 and Dec 2006 living in Bellingham, WA; Whistler, British Columbia CAN; Fort Collins, CO; Waikiki, HI; Clearwater, FL, Tampa, FL, St. Petersburg, FL; and Cincinnati, OH. He worked various jobs while 'busking' [street performing music] on the side.
Fast forward to Feb 2007. Brian was broke, and living in an abandoned building. It was then, Brian decided it was time for some security. He took a 9 - 5 job in Stockbridge, MI working in a shipping warehouse. His job was to count tens of thousands of nuts and bolts, place them in boxes, and ship them out.... every single day. 'I wanted to quit that job two months after I started.' Brian confesses. Unfortunately, Brian had given his boss his word that he would work for him for at least one year. Brian decided to make the most of that brutal Michigan winter by taking a more serious approach to songwriting. During the summer of 2007, Brian was busking almost every single weekend at different Art, Music, and Folk Festivals all over the Midwest. It didn't take long for Brian's boss to realize that Brian cared a lot more about his music career than counting nuts and bolts. Brian was fired Thanksgiving week 2007, but he was actually thankful.
It was right then and there, Brian made a critical decision: He would never sacrifice his happiness for someone else's dream again. Brian [literally] spent every single dollar he had moving down to Jax Beach, FL. 'I seriously pulled into town on fumes', he recalled. That was January, 2008.
Brian dove in, head first into the music biz. He began playing shows at local bars and clubs up and down the First Coast. To his happiness and surprise, his original music caught on. He began playing 5 to7 nights a week... after only one month of being in the Jax Beach circuit.
The familiar wanderlust soon began to kick in, and by May that same year, Brian started booking shows all over the country. Dubbed 'BuskinTOUR 2008', Brian played 30 shows in 15 states. Shortly after he completed the BuskinTOUR, Brian was given an opportunity to play in Park City, UT while hosting the Sundance Film Festival. Brian took the opportunity and relocated to the small skiing town perched high in the Wasatch Mountains.
He began playing shows everywhere from Yellowstone to Las Vegas; Idaho to Wyoming, Washington to Oregon, San Francisco to L.A. Building up small 'pockets' of fan bases all over the country.
Brian is currently in Atlantic Beach, FL recording his debut studio album. Once the record is released, Brian will spend all of October and November touring the country, promoting the new album. Come December 6th, Brian will be take a year off the music, to focus on his equally important non-profit org work, Journey4YOUth.
Brian independently released three aLIVE cd's between OCT 2007 - OCT 2009. A relentless touring schedule combined with a hard work ethic [and a little bit of luck], Brian managed to sell over 7000 demo's cd's, mostly out of his guitar case. Call it a SOUL, BEACH, ACOUSTIC, FUNK. Brian uses both his hands and feet to play over 20 instruments; his original music has been comparative to the likes of Mike Perkins, Keller Williams, John Butler Trio and Xavier Rudd. aLIVE in 2OO9: After a 40 show, 25 state, 13,000 miles US Tour, Brian hooked up with TEMPURA UNDERGROUND [Atlantic Beach, FL] to record his debut studio album, Journey4YOUth. Brian played during the 2009 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL and has shared the same bill with bands such as; The Wailers, Better Than Ezra, Soldiers Of JAH Army, Victor Barnes, The Ragbirds, and 4 Finger 5. Brian has also performed with members from Blessed Union Of Soul, Stonefed, Storyside B, Pay The Girl, & Tupelo Honey.
